What Does Breakaway Training Involve?

Grabbing a man's wrists during training

Breakaway training is delivered hands-on and scenario-based - built around situations staff are actually likely to face, not generic self-defence drills.

Sessions typically start with recognising the warning signs of escalation, move through the specific physical release techniques covered in what breakaway techniques actually are, and finish with the judgement calls: when to disengage, when to call for backup, and when physical contact was proportionate.

Most courses also cover the legal position on reasonable force in detail - a part staff often don't expect but need, since knowing a technique and knowing when you're legally justified to use it are different things.

It's delivered as one module within Stand2's wider Conflict Management & Personal Safety programme, not as a standalone physical-skills course.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.

Engaging PowerPoint, really good instructors, time to practice techniques

I recently completed training at Stand2 and had a great experience. The course was well organised, engaging and delivered by Chris C, who explained everything clearly using practical, real-life examples. The training has given me greater confidence in managing conflict, assessing risk, and keeping myself and others safe. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop these important skills.
