TRANSPORT SERVICES

Assaults on transport staff are rising. The right training makes the difference.

Transport staff face passenger aggression, verbal abuse, and physical assault as a daily occupational reality. Stand2 works with bus and rail operators, transport authorities, and passenger-facing organisations across the UK to prepare frontline teams for what they’ll actually encounter – not just what the textbook says should happen.

Training built around the realities of transport operations.

Find the right course

From bus and rail operators to aviation, maritime, and transport authorities, Stand2 works with transport organisations across the UK to prepare frontline teams for the situations they face every shift – passenger frustration, service disruption, intoxication, mental health crises, and unpredictable public behaviour. Our training is built around the operational realities of transport work, not generic conflict management theory.

Every programme reflects your operating environment, your procedures, and the specific risks your staff face. Transport professionals are often required to manage situations they didn’t create – our training makes sure they’re ready when it matters, and that their responses are consistent, proportionate, and defensible.

01What our transport training addresses.
Reducing escalation during service disruption
Transport staff face passenger frustration, verbal abuse, and aggression as a routine part of the job – and service disruption makes it worse. Our training gives frontline teams the communication skills and de-escalation techniques to manage passenger frustration effectively, reduce confrontation, and maintain control when situations deteriorate quickly.
Protecting staff safety
Frontline transport staff are regularly exposed to verbal abuse, aggression, and intimidation in public environments where support may be limited and help is not immediately at hand. Our training helps staff manage these situations more effectively, improving personal safety, reducing incidents, and building the confidence to handle difficult behaviour professionally.
Responding to vulnerable passengers & risk
Transport staff encounter intoxication, mental health crises, and passenger welfare concerns as part of their daily operational reality. Our training gives staff the awareness and practical frameworks to respond appropriately, creating safer outcomes for both employees and the travelling public.
Consistent and defensible decision-making
When an incident is later reviewed – by a regulator, an operator, or in a legal context – the question is whether your staff responded appropriately and consistently. Our training builds a shared approach to communication, incident management, and decision-making across teams, depots, and shifts.

02 Our Transport Courses

Matched to the risk level your teams actually face.

No two transport environments carry the same risks. Our programmes are built around the specific challenges your teams face – whether they’re working on buses, rail networks, stations, airports, or maritime services.

Why is conflict management training particularly urgent for transport organisations right now?
Violence against transport workers is rising sharply. In London alone, there were 10,493 reports of work-related violence and aggression against transport workers in 2023/24 – an average of 200 incidents every week. Incidents against rail staff increased by 35% between 2021 and 2023, while assaults on bus drivers rose by 18.5% over the same period. A Cambridge University survey of rail staff found that 86% had experienced verbal abuse, 79% threatening speech, and 32% physical attacks. The RMT union reported a 17% increase in violence and aggression against rail staff in just one quarter of 2025. Transport organisations have a clear statutory duty to protect their staff – and conflict management training is one of the most effective interventions available.
How can Stand2 help reduce assaults and incidents against transport staff?
Our training builds early-intervention skills, situational awareness, and structured de-escalation so staff can identify risk sooner, communicate more effectively and avoid situations escalating into physical or criminal incidents. Organisations typically see fewer assaults, reduced use of force, and improved incident outcomes when these approaches are embedded consistently across teams.
How does the training support our duty of care and health & safety obligations?
Stand2 programmes are aligned with HSE principles, industry guidance, and your organisational policies. We focus on risk assessment, proportional decision-making, and safe systems of work that demonstrate reasonable steps to protect staff – strengthening your compliance position and reducing organisational liability.
Will this training improve consistency across different depots, routes, and shifts?
Yes. Our training provides staff with a shared approach to communication, decision-making and escalation management, helping create greater consistency across teams, locations and shift patterns. This not only improves day-to-day responses to challenging situations but also supports clearer reporting, stronger operational standards and more effective organisational learning following incidents.
Is the training relevant across bus, rail, tram, aviation, and maritime settings?
Yes. Every programme begins with a Training Needs Analysis, allowing us to tailor examples, terminology and scenarios to your specific mode of transport. We take into account your operational environment, organisational procedures and the typical passenger behaviours your staff encounter, ensuring training feels relevant, practical and directly applicable to day-to-day operations.
How can training improve both staff safety and passenger experience?
The two are closely linked. When staff feel equipped to manage difficult situations, incidents are less likely to escalate creating safer environments for staff, while improving communication, reducing complaints and supporting a more positive experience for passengers.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.
