EDUCATION & LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Ofsted looks closely at how schools manage behaviour. So do we.

Schools, colleges, and specialist learning environments face a level of scrutiny that has intensified significantly in recent years. Staff are expected to manage challenging behaviour safely, de-escalate effectively, and – where necessary – use physical intervention that is proportionate, lawful, and fully documented. Stand2 has worked with education settings across the UK to develop the skills, confidence, and frameworks that make that possible.

Training that supports safer, more confident education teams.

Find the right course

Education staff are increasingly required to manage behaviour that is complex, unpredictable, and sometimes dangerous – in environments where their decisions are subject to scrutiny by Ofsted, local authorities, parents, and the media. Our training gives teachers, support staff, and specialist educators the skills to respond effectively, the confidence to act when needed, and the documentation frameworks to demonstrate that every intervention was necessary and proportionate.

We work with mainstream schools, SEND settings, PRUs, further education colleges, and specialist learning environments across the UK. Every programme is built around the specific context your staff work in – the student population, the behaviour challenges you face, and the regulatory requirements that apply to your setting. Our approach reduces risk, improves outcomes, and gives your team the professional confidence to do their jobs safely.

01What our education training addresses.
Managing escalating and challenging behaviour
As classroom behaviour becomes more complex and the threshold for what staff are expected to manage rises, the gap between basic training and genuine capability matters. Our programmes give education staff the skills to recognise early warning signs, de-escalate effectively, and respond safely when situations do escalate – reducing the risk of harm to students, colleagues, and the staff member themselves.
Safe physical intervention in education settings
Physical intervention in schools carries serious legal, safeguarding, and reputational implications. Staff need to know what they are permitted to do, how to do it safely, and how to document it afterwards. Our training is built around the specific legal framework that applies in education, and provides techniques that are appropriate for the setting and defensible under scrutiny.
Supporting SEND and complex needs
Students with autism, ADHD, trauma histories, or other complex needs may respond to conventional behaviour management approaches in ways that are unpredictable or escalatory. Our training builds staff understanding of how these conditions affect behaviour, and develops practical strategies for communication, de-escalation, and safe support that are appropriate for the individual.
Staff confidence, wellbeing, and duty of care
Staff who feel unsupported or underprepared are more likely to disengage, make poor decisions under pressure, or leave the profession entirely. Training that builds genuine capability – rather than just meeting compliance requirements – directly supports staff retention, morale, and wellbeing, while strengthening the school's duty of care to the people responsible for keeping pupils safe.

05Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions school leaders and education managers most often ask us before starting a training programme.

Is training suitable for all education staff?
Yes. Our training is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, student services professionals and support staff. The techniques taught are practical, easy to apply and designed to help staff manage challenging behaviour, emotional distress and difficult situations confidently in everyday educational environments.
How do you ensure approaches are appropriate for students?
Education settings require approaches that are safe, age-appropriate and centred around the needs of the learner. Our training is grounded in developmental understanding, emotional regulation and trauma-informed practice, helping staff respond to challenging behaviour and distress in ways that maintain dignity, build trust and support positive outcomes.
Can conflict management training support safeguarding responsibilities in schools, colleges and universities?
Yes. Our programmes help staff recognise early signs of distress, identify potential safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately when issues arise. Training focuses on effective communication, early intervention and clear decision-making, helping staff support learner wellbeing while remaining aligned with safeguarding procedures and statutory responsibilities.
Can training help reduce behavioural incidents, exclusions and staff stress?
Effective behaviour management starts with early intervention and consistent responses. By helping staff recognise escalation earlier and respond with greater confidence, organisations often see improvements in behaviour, fewer incidents requiring escalation and a more positive learning environment. Many education settings also report increased staff confidence and reduced stress when managing challenging situations.
How does Stand2 training support behaviour management and Ofsted expectations?
Ofsted looks closely at behaviour, safeguarding, staff development and the overall culture of a school. Our training helps education settings create consistent approaches to behaviour management, strengthen safeguarding practice and build staff confidence when responding to challenging situations. By supporting safer, more positive learning environments, we help schools demonstrate the strong culture, leadership and learner support that Ofsted expects to see.
Why is conflict management training increasingly important for education settings?
The range and complexity of behaviour that education staff are expected to manage has increased significantly. Schools and colleges are supporting students with more complex needs, operating under greater scrutiny, and carrying a higher duty of care than ever before. Training that was adequate five years ago often isn’t sufficient today. Our programmes reflect that reality – developing the specific skills, judgement, and documentation practices that education staff need to respond effectively, safely, and in ways that are fully defensible.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.
