Is CSTF Mandatory Training?

A district nurse works alone in a patients home

Yes - CSTF-aligned subjects are mandatory for most NHS and healthcare staff, though exactly which modules apply depends on role and employer policy. The framework itself sets the minimum learning outcomes and refresher frequency; individual trusts then decide which CSTF subjects are compulsory for which staff groups.

Refresher training is typically required on a set cycle - often three years for subjects like conflict resolution - and missing it can affect an individual's compliance record and, in some roles, their ability to work.

For what this looks like in practice for one CSTF subject, see what does CSTF stand for and what the NHS Conflict Resolution course covers.
