How Do Flight Attendants Deal With Unruly Passengers?

Verbally, and early. Trained crew are taught to intervene at the first sign of disruption - calm tone, clear and specific warnings about what needs to stop, rather than debating or arguing the point. The aim is always to resolve it at the lowest level possible, because de-escalation that works at Level 1 avoids everything that comes after it. This is exactly what our Managing Challenging & Aggressive Behaviour course for transport staff is built around: reading a situation early and de-escalating it before it needs anything more.

If warnings don't land, the next step is usually distance and documentation rather than confrontation: separating the passenger from whoever they're in conflict with, logging exactly what was said and done, and looping in the captain, who can radio ahead so police or airport security are ready to meet the aircraft. Restraint is treated as a last resort, not an early option.

That last step - physically restraining a passenger - is governed by its own, much stricter rules.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.

I recently completed training at Stand2 and had a great experience. The course was well organised, engaging and delivered by Chris C, who explained everything clearly using practical, real-life examples. The training has given me greater confidence in managing conflict, assessing risk, and keeping myself and others safe. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop these important skills.
