What Are the Five Steps to Resolving Conflict?

De-escalation training

A commonly used five-step model for resolving workplace conflict runs: identify the actual source of the disagreement, rather than the symptom; look beyond the immediate incident to any underlying pattern; ask both sides to propose solutions rather than imposing one; find the solution both parties can genuinely support; and agree it, with a clear understanding of what happens next.

It's a solid framework for conflicts that are still verbal and low-risk. Where there's a real possibility of a situation escalating further, Stand2 trains staff in a unique and proprietary appeals process - a more structured, sequential model built specifically for de-escalating resistance before it turns physical. Explore Stand2's Conflict Management Training to see how this is taught in practice.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.

I recently completed training at Stand2 and had a great experience. The course was well organised, engaging and delivered by Chris C, who explained everything clearly using practical, real-life examples. The training has given me greater confidence in managing conflict, assessing risk, and keeping myself and others safe. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop these important skills.
