Case Study

Canary Wharf

The Challenge
Canary Wharf is one of London’s most prominent financial and commercial districts, encompassing 97 acres of privately managed public space, 14 million square feet of office and retail space, and more than 100,000 daily workers and visitors. Its security operation must protect crowded public areas, major transport hubs, and high-profile corporate tenants while balancing accessibility with stringent safety measures. As a high-value economic zone and potential target for crime and terrorism, the estate requires security teams capable of responding to a wide range of threats. Prior training had lacked consistency and accreditation, failing to reflect the scale and complexity of Canary Wharf’s environment.

Why Stand2 Was Chosen
Stand2 was selected for its long-standing expertise in training security teams in complex, high-profile, public-facing environments. Canary Wharf required a provider that could deliver structured and regularly updated training aligned with operational realities. Stand2’s reputation for practical, scenario-driven training and a deep understanding of urban security risks made it the ideal partner.

What Training Was Delivered
Since 2002, Stand2 has delivered a bespoke, accredited Advanced Conflict Management & Physical Intervention programme to Canary Wharf’s security teams. In 2008, the programme was expanded, allowing advanced development of communication, de-escalation, safe physical intervention, and situational awareness skills. Training incorporated real-world scenarios drawn from estate-specific incidents, reinforcing operational standards. Complementary e-learning modules supported long-term competence, minimising skills fade and maintaining consistency between practical sessions.

Outcomes & Impact
Over two decades, the collaboration strengthened the capability, professionalism, and confidence of Canary Wharf’s security workforce. Officers reported feeling prepared to manage conflict, challenging behaviour, and live incidents across the estate. The training underpins a consistent approach to safety, complementing 24/7 patrols, active police collaboration, and advanced surveillance systems. Stand2 is proud to have supported one of the most high-profile security environments with excellence.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.

I recently completed training at Stand2 and had a great experience. The course was well organised, engaging and delivered by Chris C, who explained everything clearly using practical, real-life examples. The training has given me greater confidence in managing conflict, assessing risk, and keeping myself and others safe. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop these important skills.
