01COURSE OVERVIEW

Building on the foundations of the 1-day programme to add safe, non-harmful physical safety options for organisations operating in protest-affected environments.

This two-day programme extends the awareness, communication, and decision-making skills developed at Level 4 to include non-harmful physical safety manoeuvres and coordinated team movement for use in exceptional circumstances. Participants learn safe positioning, controlled withdrawal, and team coordination techniques – not enforcement tactics – aligned with legal, ethical, and organisational boundaries.

The course is suitable for organisations whose staff may face situations where physical safety options are necessary to protect themselves, colleagues, or the public in protest-affected environments. This includes security teams at critical infrastructure sites, corporate campuses, data centres, and high-profile public venues.

Every programme is preceded by a Training Needs Analysis to confirm the physical elements are appropriate, proportionate, and defensible for your specific environment. All physical techniques are independently medically reviewed and risk assessed.

02 HOW THIS TRAINING HELPS

How this training helps your organisation

  • Provides safe, non-harmful options where withdrawal, positioning, or movement is required
  • Improves coordination and role clarity during higher-pressure moments
  • Reduces risk of injury and reputational exposure
  • Strengthens defensibility, safeguarding, and auditability
  • Enhances scenario-based readiness for complex sites

03RISKS ADDRESSED

Without specialist preparation, staff may:

Checklist icon Attempt unsafe movement or positioning under pressure without the skills to do so safely
Checklist icon Escalate situations through unclear roles, poor communication, or inconsistent team responses
Checklist icon Use inconsistent approaches that undermine defensibility and expose your organisation to risk
Checklist icon Miss medical or situational risks during movement or withdrawal
Checklist icon Fail to document incidents to the standards required for legal and regulatory accountability

The good news is that this is entirely preventable. That’s what this course is for.

06 Course Delivery & Assessment

Two days of structured training – combining protest awareness, physical safety options, and scenario-based application built around your environment.

Delivery

This two-day programme is delivered in person through structured theoretical input, supervised practical work, and scenario-based application relevant to protest-affected operations. Every programme is preceded by a Training Needs Analysis to ensure the physical elements are appropriate, proportionate, and directly relevant to your sites, operational risks, and partner agency requirements. StandPoint, our online learning platform, supports the programme with additional resources and materials.

Medical review

All physical safety techniques taught on this programme are independently medically reviewed and fully risk assessed before delivery. This ensures every technique is safe, proportionate, and appropriate for the civilian and corporate environments this programme serves.

Assessment

Learning is assessed through observation, participation, and demonstration of techniques in controlled conditions. Assessment is continuous and practical – based on how staff apply what they’ve learned in realistic scenario exercises.

Certification

Every participant who successfully completes the programme is formally certified by Stand2, receiving a uniquely numbered certificate that confirms they have met the programme’s assessed standards. Each delegate is entered onto the Stand2 Training Register, which we maintain on your behalf – giving your organisation a clear, auditable record of who has been trained and when refresher training is due.

Training environment

All practical elements are delivered with clear consent, opt-out options, and trauma-informed facilitation throughout. Psychological and physical safety are prioritised at every stage of delivery.

07.Frequently asked questions

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Call us or drop us a message.

Are enforcement or public order tactics taught?
No. Only non-harmful safety options suitable for organisational roles are included. This programme is not public order training and contains no enforcement tactics. Every physical element focuses on safe positioning, coordinated movement, and controlled withdrawal – designed for civilian and corporate environments operating within clear organisational boundaries.
What physical skills are included and how do you ensure they remain non-harmful?
The practical components focus exclusively on safe positioning, coordinated team movement, controlled withdrawal, and low-risk manoeuvres designed to protect staff and the public. No force-based or enforcement-type skills are taught. All techniques are independently medically reviewed and risk assessed before delivery to ensure they are safe, proportionate, and appropriate for the environments this programme serves.
Is a Training Needs Analysis required for this course?
Yes. Because this programme includes physical safety elements, a Training Needs Analysis is carried out before delivery to confirm the physical options are appropriate, necessary, and proportionate for your specific environment, staff group, and operational risks. The TNA also ensures the practical drills reflect your sites, access routes, and typical crowd movement patterns. It is included as part of the process when you get in touch.
Do participants need to complete the 1-day course first?
Not strictly. The 2-day programme includes all relevant foundations and can be delivered as a standalone programme. However, where staff have already completed the 1-day Managing Protests Safely programme, the 2-day course builds directly on that foundation and the learning is reinforced more effectively.
Can the physical elements be built around our specific site layout and operational challenges?
Yes. Practical drills can reflect your environment – including chokepoints, access routes, entrances and exits, and typical crowd movement patterns – identified during the Training Needs Analysis. Every programme is built around your organisation’s specific sites and operational requirements rather than a generic template.
Will this training help us meet our legal responsibilities if movement or withdrawal is required?
Yes. The course reinforces necessity, proportionality, role boundaries, and evidence-based decision-making – supporting legal, ethical, and organisational compliance. Staff who have completed this training are better placed to demonstrate that any movement or physical response was necessary, proportionate, and consistent with their role boundaries and organisational policy.
How do we know the physical techniques won't conflict with our policies or partner agency instructions?
Before delivery, Stand2 reviews your policies, escalation routes, and any partner agency protocols to ensure full alignment. Skills are built around your organisational boundaries – not the other way around. Where specific constraints or requirements exist, these are incorporated into the Training Needs Analysis and reflected in the programme design.
What sectors is this course suitable for?
This course is suitable for organisations whose staff may face situations in protest-affected environments where physical safety options are necessary. Stand2 regularly delivers this programme to security teams at critical infrastructure sites, corporate campuses, data centres, energy networks, transport hubs, and high-profile public venues where protest activity is a realistic operational risk.
Does Stand2 training come with a certificate?
Yes. Every participant who successfully completes the programme is formally certified by Stand2 and issued with a uniquely numbered completion certificate. Each delegate is also entered onto the Stand2 Training Register, which we maintain on your behalf – providing your organisation with a clear, auditable record of who has been trained and when refresher training is due.
How often should staff refresh this training?
Stand2 recommends a refresher interval of 24 months for this programme. Because this course includes physical safety elements, the refresher follows a condensed one-day format rather than the full two-day programme. Stand2 will proactively notify you when your staff are approaching their refresher date through the Stand2 Training Register.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.
