SOCIAL CARE & SUPPORTED LIVING

Social care carries a
weight most sectors don’t. So does our training.

Social care and supported living staff work with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities – and they do so in environments where risk is constant, oversight is close, and the consequences of poor decision-making are serious. Stand2 works with social care providers across the UK to develop the training capability that helps teams respond safely, act within their legal framework, and protect both the people they support and themselves.

Training that understands the realities of social care work.

Social care staff face a level and type of risk that most other professions don’t experience. They work with people in extreme distress, manage behaviour that can be unpredictable and dangerous, and make decisions that will be scrutinised by regulators, coroners, and courts. The regulatory and legal framework governing the use of restraint and physical intervention in social care is specific, demanding, and subject to constant change. Training that doesn’t reflect that framework isn’t just inadequate – it’s a risk.

Stand2 works with social care providers across residential care, supported living, learning disability services, mental health settings, and domiciliary care. We develop the clinical reasoning, communication strategies, and physical intervention skills that allow staff to respond safely, act within their legal framework, and demonstrate that every decision was necessary, proportionate, and in the best interests of the person they support. Our programmes are developed in close alignment with CQC requirements and the legal framework governing care.

01What our social care training addresses.
Managing behaviour that challenges in care environments
Social care staff are expected to manage behaviour that challenges – including aggression, self-harm, and crisis presentations – in environments where the duty of care is high, the resource is limited, and the consequences of poor decisions are serious. Our training builds the understanding, communication skills, and practical frameworks that allow staff to respond effectively, safely, and in ways that put the person first.
Safe, lawful, and proportionate physical intervention
Physical intervention in social care carries the most complex legal and ethical requirements of any sector. Staff need to understand what they are legally permitted to do, how to do it safely, and how to ensure that every intervention is thoroughly documented and defensible. Our programmes are developed specifically for care environments and are fully aligned with the current legal framework, including the Mental Capacity Act and the principles of the MCA DoLS/LPS framework.
Supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs
Social care teams supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, or complex trauma histories need approaches that go beyond generic de-escalation. Our training develops the specific understanding of how these conditions affect behaviour, and builds practical strategies for communication, risk assessment, and intervention that are appropriate for the individual and the setting.
CQC compliance, accountability, and staff protection
CQC inspection now looks closely at how providers manage challenging behaviour and the use of restrictive practices. Our training programmes are designed to support compliance, reduce risk, and give providers the documentation frameworks that demonstrate a genuinely person-centred approach – protecting the people you support, your staff, and your organisation.

05Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions social care managers and providers most often ask us before starting a training programme.

How does Stand2 help reduce restrictive practices while maintaining safety?
Our training focuses on recognising distress early, improving communication and preventing situations from escalating. This helps staff reduce the need for restrictive interventions while supporting safer, more positive outcomes.
How does the training help staff balance independence and safety?
Supporting people to live as independently as possible while keeping them safe is one of the biggest challenges in social care. We give staff practical tools to make confident decisions that respect individual choice while supporting safeguarding and wellbeing.
Can the training help reduce injuries to staff and service users?
Yes. Staff learn how to spot early warning signs, respond calmly and manage challenging situations more safely. This can help reduce injuries, near misses and avoidable incidents for both staff and service users.
Will this help staff who feel anxious, isolated, or underconfident when working alone?
Yes. A key focus is early recognition, emotional regulation, and structured decision-making that increases confidence and reduces escalation during 1:1 work.
Will you reflect our organisational policies and regulatory requirements (e.g. CQC)?
Yes. Every course is developed through a Training Needs Analysis to ensure the content reflects your policies, safeguarding procedures, escalation pathways and organisational responsibilities. We can also align training with CQC expectations, the Mental Capacity Act, DoLS requirements and wider sector guidance, helping staff apply learning confidently within your existing framework.
Why is conflict management training particularly important for social care organisations?
Social care staff face a combination of risk factors that few other professionals experience: they work with people in extreme distress or crisis, often in isolated or under-resourced environments, under close regulatory scrutiny, and with significant legal obligations around how they respond. The consequences of poorly managed incidents – for the people they support, for staff, and for the organisation – are serious. Our training reflects that reality. We work closely with providers to develop programmes that build genuine capability, support compliance, and give staff the confidence and legal understanding to act appropriately in the most demanding situations.

Excellent. Done a few courses over the years regarding conflict management and this was the best. Relaxed teaching and no one was afraid to make a mistake or ask any questions. Enjoyed this much more than my recent SIA renewal in all honesty.

Really thoughtful and experienced teachers. After the training I felt really confident in conflict resolution and physical intervention. Thank you now I know how to protect myself, the general public and my organisation if a situation comes up.

Very well structured course and effectively taught. Techniques and solutions were very helpful.

I recently completed training at Stand2 and had a great experience. The course was well organised, engaging and delivered by Chris C, who explained everything clearly using practical, real-life examples. The training has given me greater confidence in managing conflict, assessing risk, and keeping myself and others safe. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop these important skills.
