Gerard joined the British Police Service when he was eighteen years old and for the next six and a half years was engaged in general police duties. In addition to his regular policing duties and after qualifying as a physical fitness and self-defence trainer at national level, he also delivered training in a range of defensive tactics and public order skills to operational officer’s ‘in-force’. Gerard also became a police firearms response officer providing support on spontaneous and pre planned firearms operations.
Gerard’s career developed extensively when he specialised, attached to a task force engaged in many different specialist roles which included covert surveillance assignments, close protection assignments, pre-planned & spontaneous firearms operations; Category ‘A’ Prisoner Escort and armed security. He also assisted as part of team of investigators in major enquiries nationwide.
In 1993, after a lengthy selection process, Gerard was the only successful applicant to join a specialist police unit in London who were advertising for candidates nationally at a sensitive time in policing history. His role consisted of anti-terrorist measures & deployment, VIP protection and armed security at high profile sites in London.
In 1996, Gerard became a Police National Firearms Instructor and Defensive Tactics Trainer responsible for training Police Firearms Officers both ‘in-force’ and nationally. The role consisted of the design and delivery of specialist training to meet the exceptional demands placed on specialist units and tactical firearms advice to critical incident Commanders in pre-planned and spontaneous firearms operations.
In 2000, Gerard retired early from the Police Service in order to work in the private security sector and since then he has obtained a wide range of educational qualifications including a BA in Post Compulsory Education and the Advanced Certificate in Environmental Design and Crime Prevention. He is a qualified assessor and a member of the Security Institute. He has also worked extensively in the commercial sector reducing risk and has been involved in personal protection assignment to notables in the United Kingdom and overseas.
In 2002, Gerard joined Stand2 as the Business Development Director since which time he has identified numerous business opportunities and accumulated many high-profile clients for the company. During this time, Gerard has travelled extensively designing and delivering specialist training to clients nationally and globally.
