Gerard joined West Mercia Police when he was 18 years old and for the next six and a half years was engaged in general police duties.  In addition to his regular policing duties and after qualifying as a physical fitness and self-defence trainer at national level, he also delivered training in a range of defensive tactics and public order skills to operational officer’s ‘in-force’.  Gerard also became an armed response officer providing support on spontaneous and pre planned firearms operations.

In 1988, Gerard joined the Force Tactical Firearms Unit and for the next five years was engaged in many different specialist roles in particular, covert surveillance assignments to target major criminals in-force and nationally, pre-planned & spontaneous firearms operations;  Category ‘A’ Prisoner Escort and armed security. He also assisted as part of team of investigators in major enquiries nationwide.

In 1993 and after a lengthy selection process, Gerard was the only successful candidate of many to join the Tactical Firearms Group, City of London Police, who were advertising nationally at a sensitive time in policing history.  His role consisted of anti-terrorist measures & deployment, VIP protection and armed security at high profile sites in the City.

In 1996, Gerard became a Police National Firearms Instructor and Defensive Tactics Trainer responsible for training Police Firearms Officers both in-force and nationally.  The role consisted of the design and delivery of specialist training to meet the exceptional demands placed on specialist units and tactical firearms advice to critical incident Commanders in pre-planned and spontaneous firearms operations.

In 2000, Gerard retired early from the Police Service in order to work in the private security sector.  Since then he has obtatined a wide range of educational qualifications including a BA in Post Compulsory Education and the Advanced Certificate in Environmental Design and Crime Prevention. He is a qualified assessor and a member of the Security Institute.

In 2001, Gerard worked in the commercial sector reducing risk and personal protection to notables in the United Kingdom and overseas.

In 2002, Gerard joined Stand2 as the business development director since which time he has identified numerous business opportunities and accumulated a number of high profile clients for the comapny.
