SIA training programmes

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is an independent body set up under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001, to regulate the private security industry in the U.K. Their stated mission is to regulate the private security industry effectively; to reduce criminality, raise standards and recognise quality service. One of the main duties of the SIA is to regulate the compulsory licensing of individuals who are responsible for key holding, vehicle immobilising and manned guarding, which includes

  • Security guards
  • Door supervisors
  • Close protection operatives
  • Staff responsible for cash and valuables in transit
  • Staff involved in surveillance in public places (using CCTV).

Licensing has been introduced to ensure that private security operatives are deemed ‘fit and proper’ persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job. To enable you to qualify for your SIA licence Stand2 are able to deliver the following licencing qualifications:

  • The NOCN Level 2 Award in Door Supervision
  • The NOCN level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors
  • The NOCN level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry

The NOCN level 2 Award in Door Supervision (QCF)

This qualification is for anybody who wishes to work in the priviate security industry as a door supervisor. The NOCN Level 2 Award in Door Supervision is a nationally recognised qualification which is endorsed by the SIA and regulated by Ofqual. This is a four day programme consisting of the following modules:

  • Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Working as a Door Supervisor
  • Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
  • Physical Intervention for the Private Security Industry

The NOCN Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (QCF)

This qualification is for existing licence holders who have not achieved the NOCN Level 2 Award in Door Supervision (QCF) qualification, but who need to achieve the NOCN Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (QCF) to continue to hold a licence after December 2012

The NOCN level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry

This qualification is designed for trainers (who are 18 or above) who want to teach physical intervention skills to private security staff. Achievement of this qualification is a mandatory requirement of the SIA for trainers who wish to deliver training in physical intervention skills as part of the level 2 Award in Door Supervision. To complete this course trainers must have obtained:

  • A teacher/trainer qualification equivalent to PTTLS level 3
  • A qualification in the delivery of conflict management training endorsed by the SIA

These courses can be delivered in house (for a minimum of 4 trainers) at our training centre in the West Midlands or through our associate company ILM Associates in the North East
