Conflict management

This programme is designed for staff who may be confronted by angry, aggressive and potentially violent people. Unfortunately this subject is often taught  inappropriately; adopting either a martial arts approach or an overly academic approach. Both of these approaches are fundamentally flawed and are likely to fail under pressure. Even if martial arts skills were appropriate they generally take weeks, months or even years to master whilst the academic approach fails to recognise that some people you may try and reason with may not be that reasonable. Ultimately conflict management is a practitioner based skill and should be taught as such.

At Stand2 we do not believe in a one size fits all training programme. Rather we provide bespoke programmes which are specifically tailored and personalised to the needs of your organisation.

The training is generally conducted as a one day programme or a half day refresher course and is successfully delivered across a broad range of sectors including:

  • Hospitals and other Health Care Providers
  • Educational Establishments
  • Security Companies
  • Social Services
  • The Ambulance Service
  • The Retail Sector
  • University Students

Whist the C.A.R.E. programme provides the models and the framework common to all of the conflict management programmes, specific case studies and videos together with specialised drills and exercises  ensure that the C.A.R.E. principles are learnt and applied in the context of the students specific operational role.

The training will build confidence and allow you to:

  • Recognise, evaluate and where possible avoid the threat
  • Act professionally
  • Control your own negative behaviour (e.g. anger, fear and the freeze response)
  • Successfully communicate and reason with people who may be confused or highly emotionally.
  • Work as a team or as a solo responder to minimise the risk
  • Involve and support the police, security staff etc.
  • Deal with grabs and holds
  • Survive a violent attack
