I am Head of Security for a Company providing Data Centre services to a wide variety of clients. A key element of our delivery is security and as such the technology, processes and people are designed to work together to afford a highly robust and effective deterrent against many forms of risk. To that end, the most important part of that approach is without doubt the “people” element and as such is why we take the extra time and energy with our training partners at Stand 2 to develop our staff to deal with a wide variety of scenarios, including ones which may include conflict, aggression or escalate to a point where physical intervention is required.

A common mistake in my view that organisations make when procuring security services, is not fully understanding the scope of services they expect from their suppliers. In many instances, security service users expect as a matter of course that their staff are adequately trained and competent to deal with incidents which may involve conflict and aggression. In reality many staff only have a basic training required to achieve licensing requirements, and as such increase the risk to themselves and their colleagues which could be reduced effectively by the delivery of accredited training delivered by a professional service provider, which may also reduce any consequential liability on the parent organisation to a more manageable level.

It was with these considerations and with a view to trying to get the most flexible and effective training for my organisations needs that I chose Stand 2, having used them at another prestigious organisation delivering services as part of the critical national infrastructure and trusting their experience, professionalism and expertise in this particular field.

Having experience in Security, Policing and Military fields and having undertaken training with Stand 2 in the past, I can say with confidence that the training delivered is exactly appropriate to the needs of my business and the industry, in addition to giving the essential skills that those delivering protective services on the front line need to stay safe, de-escalate confrontational situations or make informed decisions to justify any actions they deem appropriate which are managed through their system which allows the full range of skills to be utilised when the need arises.

The feedback from my teams has always been positive, with even the more experienced members remarking on how it has exceeded expectations and developed them personally to a higher level, especially where the courses have included the use of handcuffs which I believe is largely due to the teaching technique taught which maximises the use of principles rather than more tradition technique based approaches which appears to help the learners recall the skills more easily an translate those into day to day situations.

Staff have also reported after the courses that they feel more confident in delivering security services and found that in many instances they have been able to avoid conflict through the techniques taught resulting in a positive outcome for all those involved.
