MORE THAN 90 ASSAULTS ON TEACHERS A DAY BY PUPILS

Official figures show that there were 17,680 physical assaults by pupils against teaching staff between 2012 and 2013. This equates to more than 90 assaults on staff by pupils in England each school day last year. This was an an increase from 16,970 the previous year.

Yet perhaps surprisingly, the number of pupils either temporarily or permanently excluded from school has consistently fallen since 2010. The number of reported bullying and racism incidents has also fallen in the past year.
